The royal city of Děčín was founded in the thirteenth century by Přemysl Otakar II. and it lies on both banks of Elbe. The most dominant feature is Pastýřská stěna. One of the dominant features of the ciity is the Děčín castle with extensive gardens and parks. Other features are Děčín bridges built in the fifteenth and the sixteenth century. The Oldtown bridge crosses Ploučnice and the Sheep bridge, characteristical by its high arcs. Even Masaryk square and its surroundigs are virtually filled with historical sights, for example a baroque fountain, townsmen's houses and baroque church of the saint Vaclav and Blažej. Podmokly synagogue built in the nineteenth century is worth seeing as well. After a day spent by admiring local architecture, visiting Děčín castle or zoo you are welcome to spend the night at hotel Ostrov.

Děčín castle lies on rocky promontory above the confluence of Elbe and Ploučnice. It is one of the most important historical structures of Northern Bohemia. During the past centuries it served its purpose of supporting the prince of Bohemian land, army base or house of various Czech dynasties.
The whole structure is under reconstruction, thanks to which its beauty is slowly coming back. The visitors can walk through the former owner's suite, enjoy a beautiful view of the city and be astonished by the beauty and the atmosphere of the Rose garden.

In Děčín's zoo you can not only see the "usual" local and exotic animals, but a track filled with tasks, fun and adventure is set up mostly for the kids. The forest surrounding Děčín's zoo is a perfect place for a family trip. Zou can look forward to the games set up for both kids and adults. The Rajské ostrovy exposition, open in 2006, is the proverbial "icing on the cake". You will see a lot of exotic animals and the biggest saltwater aquarium in the region.
